Youth Advancement Monument, Bronze monument at Senayan roundabout, Jakarta, Indonesia.
The Youth Advancement Monument is a 25 meter tall dark-grey terrazzo structure located at the southern end of Sudirman Street, depicting a young man holding a flaming plate above his head. The sculpture sits at a central traffic intersection in the Kebayoran Baru district and serves as a clear landmark for visitors navigating the area.
The monument was built in 1971 and 1972 with support from the Pertamina oil company and was created to celebrate Jakarta's 445th anniversary. It represents the tradition of constructing large sculptures to commemorate important national events after independence.
The statue shows a young man holding a flame above his head and represents the role of youth in building the nation. The fire symbolizes progress and hope for a better future for the country.
The monument is located at a central roundabout with good access via nearby MRT stations and bus lines. The best time for photos is during early morning or late afternoon hours when the light enhances the terrazzo surface.
During the MRT construction, engineers built a temporary steel frame to protect the statue while digging the tunnel underneath. This protective measure allowed the monument to remain in place while construction occurred beneath it.
