Terarium Reptil 2, Reptile terrarium in Ragunan Zoo, Indonesia
Terarium Reptil 2 is a reptile facility at Ragunan Zoo that houses snakes, lizards and turtles native to the Indonesian archipelago. The enclosures feature plants, rocks and water features arranged to resemble the natural environments where these animals live.
The reptile facility opened in 1966 as part of the expansion works at Ragunan Zoo. Since then, the building has been renovated several times to improve conditions for keeping native reptile species.
Indonesian reptiles hold deep connections to local traditions, with many species featured in regional stories about natural wisdom and environmental balance.
The facility is open Tuesday through Friday from 7 AM to 4 PM, with weekend hours starting at 6 AM. Most animals are more active during the cooler morning hours before temperatures rise significantly.
Keepers conduct regular feeding demonstrations where visitors watch how different reptile species hunt and eat. These sessions also explain how dietary habits vary widely depending on the animal.
