Bekasi

Bekasi is a regency in the province of West Java, sitting east of Jakarta across an area of about 1,200 square kilometers. The territory covers 23 subdistricts that stretch from dense industrial zones to rural rice paddies.

Two rivers, Candrabhaga and Gomati, first appeared in the 5th century Tugu inscription, marking the earliest written reference to this area. Over time the region evolved from an agricultural hinterland into a modern industrial zone.

The name Bekasi likely comes from the Javanese words for iron and decay, a reminder of old metal trade routes. Today many villages hold traditional community meetings where neighbors discuss local matters and celebrations.

Several toll roads link the area to the capital Jakarta, making it easy for visitors to reach by car. The central administration sits in Central Cikarang, which serves as a landmark for official business.

The factories of Suzuki Indomobil Motor and Panasonic have sites here, making the region a major center for automotive and electronics production. Visitors often see long convoys of trucks carrying finished products from the plants to the ports.
