Bandung Institute of Technology, Institute of technology in Bandung, Indonesia.
The Bandung Institute of Technology is a technical university in western Java, spread across three locations in Indonesia and offering facilities for engineering education. The campus includes numerous laboratory buildings, lecture halls and research facilities where thousands of students work daily on technical disciplines.
The institution began in 1920 under the name Technische Hoogeschool te Bandoeng during Dutch colonial rule and formed the first technical university in the Dutch East Indies. After independence, it received its current name in 1959 and became one of the leading technical universities in the country.
The name refers to the Hindu god of wisdom, whose representations appear across the grounds and symbolize the link between Indonesian tradition and technology. In the corridors and lecture halls, a working atmosphere prevails where students from different parts of the country gather and tinker with projects.
The main campus sits in western Bandung in hilly surroundings, so exploring the grounds requires walking gentle slopes. Visitors should wear respectful clothing and keep in mind that the buildings experience heavy activity during lecture times.
The library houses one of the largest technical collections in Southeast Asia and archives research work from the early decades of the 20th century. Some professors rank internationally among the most cited scientists in their fields.
