Abdul Rachman Saleh Airport, Military and commercial airport in Malang, Indonesia

Abdul Rachman Saleh Airport is a combined civilian and military aviation facility in Malang, East Java province. The complex features a long runway for commercial flights and a modern passenger terminal with standard amenities including check-in areas and retail outlets.

Dutch colonial authorities built this aviation facility between 1937 and 1940 in the strategic Bromo valley region. Following Indonesian independence, the site transitioned to dual-use operations serving both military and civilian passenger transport needs.

The airport's name honors Indonesian aviator Abdoel Rachman Saleh, a pioneering figure in the nation's air transport development who died during the independence struggle. Walking through the terminal, passengers encounter this legacy of aviation progress embedded in the facility's identity.

The airport sits approximately 14 kilometers from downtown Malang, with ground transportation readily available for travelers heading into the city. Allow sufficient time for your journey to and from the terminal, as travel duration varies depending on traffic conditions.

A modern passenger terminal opened here in December 2011, operating alongside the 4th Air Squadron's military operations. This side-by-side arrangement of civilian and military aviation creates an unusual operational dynamic that shapes daily activities at the facility.
