Colorful Village Jodipan, Riverside painted neighborhood in Malang, Indonesia
Jodipan is a painted residential neighborhood along the Brantas River in Malang, where houses are painted in different colors such as yellow, blue, pink, and green. The buildings line narrow streets that wind through the area, creating a cohesive colorful pattern throughout the district.
The area was transformed in 2016 when university students partnered with a paint company to renovate approximately 107 residential houses. This initiative turned what was previously an overlooked neighborhood into a recognized destination that attracted visitors afterward.
Local artists shape the neighborhood's appearance by creating murals that depict Indonesian traditions and everyday life on walls throughout the area. These artworks are woven into how residents express their identity and character.
Visitors can purchase entrance tickets at two separate entry points to access both the painted village and the adjacent Kampung Tridi neighborhood across the river. Morning or late afternoon visits offer the best lighting for photographing the colorful buildings.
A glass bridge spans the Brantas River and connects the painted village to Kampung Tridi, allowing visitors to see both neighborhoods from above. The bridge itself is constructed from specially treated glass that provides a view downward to the river below.
