Great Mosque of Malang, Islamic religious center in Malang City, Indonesia.
The Great Mosque of Malang is a prayer house with a square floor plan and a prominent pyramid-shaped roof ornament. The interior is supported by four main teak wood pillars, which work together with additional supporting columns to structure the worship space.
Construction took place in two phases between 1890 and 1903. The building was erected on government-owned land designated for religious purposes.
The building shows a mix of Javanese architectural styles, particularly in the roof design, alongside Arabic features visible in the minaret shapes and entrance archways. Visitors can see this blend throughout the interior and exterior spaces.
The site is located in the city center in the Kauman district on Jalan Merdeka Barat. Visitors should plan their visit according to prayer times and dress appropriately.
The building features an innovative column system where four main pillars are surrounded by about twenty supporting columns. This design allows open sightlines and spacious prayer areas without visible interior walls.
