Kampung Tridi, Street art neighborhood in Malang, Indonesia.
Kampung Tridi is a neighborhood in Malang covered with large murals and three-dimensional optical illusions painted in bold colors across residential buildings. The area consists of interconnected painted zones accessible through colorful pathways and bridges.
The neighborhood began transforming in 2016 when local artists collaborated with residents to paint their houses and establish this as a tourist destination. This initial project evolved into an expanding art initiative that continues to include additional zones and sections.
The murals depict scenes of everyday life and local traditions that emerged from collaboration between artists and residents. Visitors often interact with the artworks by posing and participating in the visual stories painted across the walls.
The neighborhood is walkable with relatively straightforward paths connecting different painted zones, though several entrances lead to various sections. It's best to wear comfortable shoes and allow plenty of time to explore all areas and take photographs.
Many of the three-dimensional murals are designed to interact with photographs through visual tricks that change depending on camera angle and positioning. This playful approach to perspective makes each photo an experiment in how the viewer perceives depth.

The island of Java showcases an exceptional heritage blending spiritual traditions and natural wonders. The temples of Prambanan and Candi Mendut attest to the grandeur of 9th-century Hindu and Buddhist civilizations, while the Candi Sewu complex reveals sacred architecture organized according to mandala principles. Active volcanoes like Mount Bromo and Kawah Ijen offer striking landscapes, from the smoking crater dominating the black sand plain to turquoise lakes where miners still extract sulfur. Javanese cities combine tradition and modernity: Jakarta features the National Monument on Merdeka Square, Bandung houses the Geology Museum founded in 1928, and Malang surprises with Kampung Biru, whose houses are entirely painted blue. The Seribu Islands extend this diversity into the Java Sea with their coral reefs, while floating markets like in Lembang maintain age-old trading practices. This array of sites invites exploration of Indonesia’s deep spirit, between spirituality, volcanic nature, and human ingenuity.
