Al-Karomah Great Mosque

Al-Karomah Great Mosque is the principal place of worship in Martapura, standing on Ahmad Yani Street with extensive grounds and multiple prayer areas. Its design includes several chambers and open courtyards built to hold thousands of visitors for religious services.

This place of worship was established after a fire in 1863 by local leaders who sought to build a new religious center for their community. It has undergone several changes and renovations over time while retaining some of its original building elements.

The mosque reflects local building traditions mixed with Middle Eastern influences, showing architectural elements that echo early Indonesian places of worship. Visitors can see how the structure and decoration express both religious practice and the area's heritage.

The site is most active during early morning and evening hours when religious gatherings take place, offering the best chance to see the compound with activity. Visitors should wear respectful clothing and remember that shoes must be removed in certain areas.

Inside the mosque, wooden pillars from the original construction remain in place, bearing witness to the first building from over a century ago. These support posts made from local timber showcase the craftsmanship of early builders and connect the present-day structure to its roots.
