Noefefan Bridge, 380-meter bridge in Oecusse, Timor-Leste
The Noefefan Bridge is a modern crossing that spans the Tono River and connects distant areas near Oecusse. Three curved arches support the roadway over the water, creating a substantial structure that stretches across the river valley.
The project started in 2015 and took roughly two years to complete before its official opening. This construction marked an important step forward in connecting the remote region of Oecusse.
The bridge links everyday life for local people who travel daily between their villages and the markets of Pante Macassar. It has transformed access to schools, hospitals, and shops that were once difficult to reach from the surrounding communities.
The bridge provides a safe crossing for vehicles and pedestrians in all weather conditions. It is wider than typical local roads and accommodates daily traffic from trucks, buses, and motorcycles without congestion.
The bridge features an arch design chosen by Indonesian engineers to better suit local river conditions and geography. This adapted approach to engineering makes it notable among regional infrastructure projects.
