Barranyi National Park

The national park extends across 53 square kilometers of coastal landscapes, featuring long sandy beaches and diverse marine environments on North Island.

The protected area received its official national park designation in March 1992, establishing formal conservation measures for the Gulf of Carpentaria region.

The Yanyuwa Aboriginal people maintain ownership of the land, contributing their traditional knowledge to the park's management through local committees.

Access to the park requires boat transportation, with registration at the Borroloola Ranger Station necessary before visiting the remote location.

The waters surrounding Barranyi contain extensive coral reef systems that support populations of tropical fish species and marine wildlife.
