Darwin International Airport, International air transport hub in City of Darwin, Australia.
Darwin International Airport is an international airport in Eaton, Northern Territory. The facility shares its grounds with RAAF Base Darwin, with both civilian and military aircraft using the runways.
The facility opened in 1919 as one of the earliest airports in Australia. During World War II it suffered Japanese bombing raids and then served as a key base for Allied air operations across the Pacific.
The terminal displays works from Northern Territory indigenous communities. Visitors encounter traditional patterns alongside modern pieces by Australian artists, bringing the region's character into the building.
The grounds sit about 8 kilometers (5 miles) northeast of the city center and are easily reached by road. Arrivals and departures spread throughout the day, with the terminal offering car hire, restaurants, and shops.
A large solar installation has supplied part of the operation since 2016 and ranks among the biggest of its kind at any airport worldwide. The panels stand on areas beside the taxiways and generate power directly on site.
