Adelaide Airport, International aerodrome in West Torrens, Australia.
Adelaide Airport is the main air transport facility in South Australia, located roughly 6 kilometers west of the city center. The complex includes a terminal building measuring around 850 meters in length, with separate zones for domestic and international flights.
Operations began in 1955 after the city moved from its earlier airfield at Parafield. The facility has since expanded several times, most recently with a new control tower in 2013.
The airport takes its name from the capital city, itself named after Queen Adelaide. Travelers passing through see local artwork displays and a historic twin-engine biplane from the early days of aviation.
Arrival and departure halls sit next to each other and are well-signposted throughout. Travelers moving between the terminal and long-term car parks should allow some walking time.
The control tower reaches 44 meters in height and ranks among the tallest of its kind in Australia. From the top, air traffic controllers oversee the runway and entire apron area in all weather conditions.
