National Military Vehicle Museum, Military vehicle museum in Edinburgh, South Australia.
The National Military Vehicle Museum displays military vehicles ranging from World War I to contemporary times in a former defence facility. The collection includes tanks, trucks, jeeps, and specialist vehicles arranged across an outdoor area and within hangars.
The museum was established in 1993 and was initially housed in the Messenger Press building in Port Adelaide before moving to its current Edinburgh location in 2006. The relocation provided improved storage conditions and more space for the expanding collection.
The vehicles on display reflect different conflicts and periods of service, telling military history through the lens of engineering and innovation. Visitors encounter not just machines, but the stories of those who operated them in various circumstances.
The museum is accessible only on weekends and visitors should wear comfortable shoes since there is a large outdoor area to explore. In bad weather, the hangars provide shelter, and a visit typically takes two to three hours.
Many vehicles in the collection remain operational and registered, and are regularly driven to demonstrations and parade events throughout the region. These running exhibits show machines that function rather than simply sitting on display.
