Koroit Botanic Gardens

Koroit Botanic Gardens is a three-hectare park containing numerous native plant species, walking paths, and established trees that provide natural shade throughout the grounds. The paths connect different areas of the space, allowing visitors to explore the varied plant life at their own pace.

William Guilfoyle designed the gardens in 1862 using Victorian landscaping principles to create a central recreational space for Koroit. This 19th-century vision continues to shape the grounds today.

The gardens reflect the Irish heritage of early settlers through plant choices and design elements that tell the story of the area's origins. Walking through the space, you notice how these selections create a connection to that cultural history.

Benches and picnic tables are positioned throughout the paths, with informative signs explaining botanical features and local wildlife. The layout makes it easy to navigate and choose your own route through the space.

The gardens offer views of Tower Hill, an extinct volcano that creates a striking natural backdrop. This geological feature gives the park a special spatial character that visitors often overlook.
