Thorndon Park Reserve

Thorndon Park Reserve is an urban park featuring walking trails, picnic areas, wetlands, and an amphitheater situated at 102 meters elevation. The grounds combine natural landscape elements with facilities designed for family use and outdoor recreation.

The original reservoir was completed in 1860 and served Adelaide's initial water supply system before being converted into a public park in 1986. This transformation allowed the community to repurpose the site for recreation and gathering.

The amphitheater and open lawns serve as gathering places where the community holds events and meets throughout the year. These spaces are central to how locals use the park for social and recreational occasions.

The reserve offers wheelchair-accessible paths, barbecue stations, and children's play equipment distributed throughout the grounds. Plenty of shaded rest areas make it easy to spend several hours exploring at a comfortable pace.

The grounds feature a series of interconnected ponds and wetland areas that create habitats for native plants and wildlife in an urban setting. These water features support various bird species and other animals not often seen in city spaces.
