The beach extends along a curved shoreline with limestone cliffs reaching heights of 35 meters and features consistent southeast swells throughout the year.
William Bell, a Geelong businessman, owned the surrounding lands in the 1840s, which led to the naming of this coastal section.
The Rip Curl Pro competition at Bells Beach began in 1962 and continues as the longest-running professional surfing event in existence.
Visitors access the beach through a designated parking area connected to walking tracks that lead down to multiple viewing platforms.
The Surfers Appreciating Natural Environment organization planted 100,000 native plants in the reserve to protect the coastal environment.
