Werribee Gorge State Park

The Werribee River flows through this 1,200-hectare park, creating deep gorges between cliffs and dense bushland areas that support native wildlife populations.

The 200-meter deep gorge formed one million years ago when tectonic movements along a fault line increased the river's gradient through ancient sedimentary rocks.

The geological formations within the park contain evidence of an ancient ice sheet advance and volcanic lava flows from over 400 million years ago.
