T & G Building, Geelong, Art Deco commercial building in Moorabool Street, Geelong, Australia.
The T & G Building is a five-story structure at the corner of Moorabool and Ryrie Streets with a white facade, geometric patterns, and vertical lines running across its surfaces. A distinctive clock tower with four faces tops the roofline.
The building was completed in 1934 by the Temperance and General Life Assurance Society as an employment project during the economic downturn. Its original use as an insurance office evolved into different purposes over the decades.
The clock features two bronze figures dressed in 1930s farmer clothing that emerge and strike a bell each hour, symbolizing a bond between generations.
The building is easily accessible from street level and the clock tower is visible from Moorabool Street for clear viewing. Visitors can observe the exterior details at any time, particularly when the bronze figures activate on the hour.
The clock mechanism features four separate faces pointing in all directions and two moving bronze figures dressed as 1930s farmers. The automated machinery still operates using the original system from nearly a century ago.
