Glenard Estate, Heritage residential estate in Eaglemont, Australia.
Glenard Estate is a residential development in Eaglemont with curved streets that follow the natural landscape. Around 120 properties are arranged around internal community reserves and triangular traffic islands, with most homes positioned to enjoy views of the surrounding terrain.
The estate was designed in 1915 by architects Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahony Griffin for grazier Peter Keam, following their earlier Mount Eagle Estate project. Keam's protective covenants entered into property deeds have safeguarded the original street layout and communal reserves across generations.
The estate reflects early twentieth-century garden city ideals, where homes blend with shared green spaces and local plants. You can see how residents enjoy these integrated communal areas as part of their daily surroundings.
The internal reserves feature designated play areas separated from traffic, making them safe for families and visitors to explore. The curved street layout may feel confusing at first, so allow time to wander and appreciate how the roads adapt to the landscape.
The site retains native plants from the 1860s, a rare remnant of what existed before the estate was built or deliberately preserved during planning. This older vegetation gives the place much of its character and helps explain why the designers chose these particular curves and open spaces.
