Edinburgh Gardens, Melbourne, Public park in North Fitzroy, Melbourne, Australia
Edinburgh Gardens is a public park in North Fitzroy covering 24 hectares with mature trees distributed throughout the green space. The grounds include sports fields, playgrounds, walking paths, and various recreational facilities for visitors of all ages.
Queen Victoria granted the land in 1862 for the creation of a park in the area. Designer Clement Hodgkinson developed the layout with sports fields and organized recreational facilities.
The gardens host regular community gatherings and display art installations throughout the grounds. The historic rotunda at the center serves as a focal point where locals and visitors come together for celebrations and events.
The park offers tennis courts, basketball courts, cricket pitches, barbecue areas, and playgrounds scattered throughout the grounds. Public toilets are available across the site for visitor convenience.
The park features an empty pedestal that was originally intended for a statue of Queen Victoria. The original statue disappeared from the grounds approximately three years after it was installed.
