Mona Vale, Tasmania, Victorian mansion in Ross, Tasmania
The substantial two-story residence contains 52 rooms, numerous windows, and multiple chimneys, making it the largest private Victorian mansion in Tasmania.
Robert Kermode commissioned architect William Archer to design this grand estate, which was completed in 1867 and received a visit from the Duke of Edinburgh.
The mansion incorporates elements representing calendar measurements, with 52 rooms for weeks, 365 windows for days, and 12 chimneys symbolizing months of the year.
The property maintains registration on both the Tasmanian Heritage Register and Register of the National Estate since 1978, allowing for protected status.
During World War II, the estate transformed into a military facility, serving as a training ground and housing a light horse regiment camp.
