Delaneys Falls, Plunge waterfall in Preston, Tasmania
Delaneys Falls is a waterfall in Preston, Tasmania, featuring three separate drops that plunge about 25 meters down into a gorge. The water flows from Preston Creek and feeds into the Leven River near Gunns Plains.
The land around this waterfall belonged to William Delaney, who agreed with the Ulverstone Progress Society in 1905 to keep the area in its natural state. This early agreement helped ensure the site remained open to the public.
Local conservation groups monitor and maintain the natural environment of the falls to ensure continuous access for future generations.
A flat path leads 400 meters from the car park to a viewing platform at the top of the gorge and is accessible for wheelchairs. The route is well marked and offers different spots to see the falls from various angles.
This place goes by two different names: officially registered as Delaneys Falls but appearing on local signs as Preston Falls. This naming duality reflects the long connection between the Delaney family and the local community.
