Ninety Mile Beach Marine National Park

Ninety Mile Beach Marine National Park stretches along Victoria's coast and protects expansive sand plains with diverse marine ecosystems beneath the water surface. The park covers several hundred square kilometers of seabed and coastal waters that harbor rich underwater life.

The Victorian government established this protected marine area in November 2002 to preserve the natural coastal environment and marine biodiversity. This action followed recognition that the stretch of coast and its underwater habitats required formal protection.

The waters and shores remain traditional lands of the Gunaikurnai People, who continue to hold important connections to this marine environment. Their relationship with this place shapes how the area is understood and valued today.

The park is accessible via the South Gippsland Highway from Melbourne, with entry points near the coastal town of Seaspray. Visitors should prepare accordingly since most activities involve water access or require boat travel.

Scientists have documented over 860 different marine species within just ten square meters of the park's underwater sand plains. This remarkable density of life beneath the surface reveals how productive and diverse this seemingly bare sandy bottom truly is.
