Roxy Community Theatre
Roxy Community Theatre, Art Deco theater in Leeton, Australia
The Roxy Community Theatre features geometric shapes, a corrugated iron roof, and brick walls that represent the architectural elements of the 1930s period.
First opened on April 7, 1930, the theater was saved from redevelopment in the late 1970s when local residents raised $27,000 to purchase the building.
The venue serves as a central gathering point for the community, hosting film screenings, live performances, concerts, and educational programs throughout the year.
The theater building currently undergoes renovations with virtual tours available through the Leeton Shire Council website every two weeks until mid-2024.
Known locally as 'Big Red', the theater received large neon signs in 1933 that made it visible from distant locations across the region.
