Gundagai, Regional administrative center in New South Wales, Australia.

Gundagai extends across 2,458 square kilometers of terrain in the Riverina region, with the Murrumbidgee River flowing through its territory.

The local government area originated in 1924 through the combination of Gundagai Municipality and Adjungbilly Shire, operating until its merger with Cootamundra in 2016.

The Wiradjuri people named this land Willeblumma, meaning Possum Island, and used the Murrumbidgee River floodplains as their gathering place.

The administrative center maintains operations from Council Chambers at 255 Sheridan Street, managing services for approximately 3,870 residents across the region.

The 1852 flood reshaped the entire settlement when the Murrumbidgee River destroyed the original township, leading to its reconstruction at a higher elevation.
