Up-To-Date Store

The Up-To-Date Store is a Federation Free Style building with a distinctive parapet and large display windows on Cowabbie Street in Coolamon. It houses the Coolamon Library and museum spaces displaying historical retail goods and farming equipment.

The building was constructed in 1909 based on architect William John Monks design and built by George Henry Mutch. It served farmers until 1932 as the main supplier for the local wheat region and was vital to trade in the area.

The store reveals how farmers in the region shopped and the tools they relied on daily. It preserves memories of when this shop formed the center of local economic life.

The building sits in central Coolamon and is easy to reach on foot. The interior displays original early 1900s features, so visitors should expect compact spaces.

The building preserves an old overhead cash railway system that transported money and receipts through wires above the sales floor. This pre-war functional design shows how retail operations were organized in that era.
