The Bethungra Spiral features two separate railway tracks, with northbound trains following an elevated circular path through tunnels and over viaducts.
The railway spiral, constructed during the 1940s, replaced the original 1878 single-track line to address train load limitations and bank engine requirements.
The Epping Model Railway Club maintains an HO scale model of the Bethungra Spiral, displaying it at exhibitions across New South Wales.
Visitors can observe trains navigating the spiral from a dedicated viewing platform located on Bethungra Waterworks Road with free parking facilities.
The railway structure incorporates two tunnels allowing the northbound track to pass under the original line and over itself after gaining elevation.
