Meroo National Park

Meroo National Park is a protected nature reserve on the New South Wales coast with dramatic cliffs, forests, wetlands, and heathland habitats. The landscape shifts between open grassland and denser vegetation, with the ocean as a constant backdrop along the coastal sections.

The area was established as a national park to protect the natural habitats and ecosystems of this coastal region. This protected status has allowed the diverse landscapes and wildlife to be preserved over time.

Aboriginal peoples used this land for generations to gather food and resources from the waters and forests around them. Visitors can sense this long relationship with the environment while exploring the different areas of the park.

The park has marked walking trails of varying difficulty and designated rest areas with lookout points for whale watching. Visitors should prepare for changing coastal weather and wear proper footwear for uneven terrain.

Termeil Lake within the park creates a freshwater ecosystem where uncommon water birds can be spotted in their natural habitat. The lake also reveals how freshwater and saltwater systems meet in this coastal landscape.
