St Joseph's Church, Mt Victoria, Catholic church in Mt Victoria, New Zealand
St Joseph's Church features concrete panels decorated with early Christian fish symbols and a large semi-amphitheatre layout accommodating 300 people at the altar point.
The original church, built in 1885 as an octagonal wooden structure on Buckle Street, was replaced by the current building which opened in 2004.
The church incorporates Maori design elements through its koru-shaped layout intertwined with a cross, representing the fusion of traditional and contemporary spiritual expressions.
The building includes energy-efficient systems, natural ventilation, and rainwater harvesting facilities, making it an environmentally conscious place of worship.
The chapel houses Art Deco stained glass windows from Harry Clarke's studio, originally displayed at the 1939 New Zealand Centennial Exhibition.
