Park Island, Napier, Sports stadium in Napier, New Zealand
Park Island is a 68-hectare (168-acre) sports complex in Napier featuring multiple fields and facilities, including Bluewater Stadium with capacity for 5,000 spectators. The grounds contain dedicated areas for football, cricket, hockey, netball, rugby, and archery on well-maintained grass surfaces.
The site developed from mudflats and tidal inlets of Ahuriri Lagoon following the 1931 earthquake. Its transformation into a sports complex took place in 1985.
The complex serves as home to Napier City Rovers and Hawke's Bay United football teams, hosting matches that draw supporters from across the region. These clubs are central to the local sporting identity and community gatherings.
The facility operates year-round with various training and play areas for different sports. It is wise to check in advance which areas are available during your intended visit.
Two early 1900s cemeteries, Western Hills and Park Island, sit adjacent to the modern sports grounds. These burial sites recall the area's early settlement history.
