Pukete Bridge, Road bridge in Waikato Region, New Zealand
Pukete Bridge is a concrete structure that crosses the Waikato River, linking eastern and western sections of Wairere Drive in Hamilton across approximately 158 meters. The bridge accommodates multiple traffic lanes for vehicle movement.
Construction of the bridge started in 1985 and finished in 1996, establishing a new transportation link in the region. A 2011 expansion project doubled its capacity from two to four lanes.
The structure is recognized locally as a key connection across the river, and its colored acoustic barriers have become a visible part of Hamilton's landscape. Residents often notice the yellow and blue elements when crossing.
A dedicated pathway on the southern side allows pedestrians and cyclists to cross safely, measuring about 3 meters wide with space separated from vehicle traffic. This arrangement makes it easy for non-motorized travelers to use the crossing.
The acoustic barriers feature blue and yellow colors that reference local elements like kowhai trees and water. This color choice distinguishes the bridge visually from typical gray concrete crossings and becomes a landmark in the area.
