The Kentish Hotel, Historic hotel in Waiuku, New Zealand
The Kentish Hotel stands near Waiuku Harbor entrance, featuring traditional architecture with a central bar area and multiple dining spaces across two levels.
Edward Constable, who arrived from Maidstone, Kent, constructed this establishment in 1851, obtaining New Zealand's first continuous liquor license in 1853.
The interior walls display over 450 photographs documenting New Zealand and Waiuku history, including visits from Maori King Te Whero Whero and Prime Ministers.
The Portside Restaurant serves local wines while offering views of the harbor, with additional outdoor seating areas facing Tamakae Reserve.
A group of volunteers saved the hotel from destruction during a 1926 fire by covering the building with wet sheets and continuously spraying water.
