Hollywood Cinema is a movie theater in Avondale featuring a prominent brick facade with supporting columns and a distinctive dome crowning the roof. The space has been adapted to show films while preserving its original architectural design.
The building opened in 1867 as Avondale Public Hall and underwent major renovations in 1915 that established its current appearance. This transformation eventually led to its use as a cinema.
The venue transformed from a multi-purpose community hall into a dedicated cinema space, screening films continuously from silent movies to digital projections.
The cinema sits on St Georges Road in the Avondale area and offers modern screening equipment. Getting to the venue and finding your seat is straightforward.
The building once housed a Wurlitzer Organ that provided live musical accompaniment during film screenings. This instrument was part of the venue's setup during operations under Jan Grefstad starting in 1966.
