Wairere Falls, Natural waterfall in Kaimai Range, New Zealand.
Wairere Falls descends 153 meters in two cascading sections over a natural rock formation within the dense vegetation of North Island.
The Native Land Court transferred the ownership of Wairere Falls to the Crown in 1896, leading to its protection as a Scenic Reserve by 1908.
The falls hold importance for Ngati Hinerangi people as the location where explorer Ngahue found sustenance during his return journey to Hawaiki.
The walking track stretches 5 kilometers return from Goodwin Road carpark, with viewing platforms at different elevations offering multiple perspectives.
The waterfall flows over an active fault line in the Kaimai Range, where the ground sinks approximately 2 millimeters each year.
