Owharoa Falls, Staircase waterfall in Karangahake Gorge, New Zealand
The waterfall consists of three distinct cascading tiers dropping approximately 15 meters over smooth rocks into a wide pool at the base.
During the gold mining era of the late 1800s, Owharoa Falls served as a natural landmark for miners traversing the mineral-rich Karangahake Gorge region.
Local residents frequently gather at the falls during summer months for swimming and traditional diving activities from the middle tier into the pool.
The waterfall stands just off Waitawheta Road, with a dedicated parking area and a brief walking path leading directly to the viewing area.
The falls maintain consistent water flow throughout all seasons, creating three separate swimming areas at different heights along its natural formation.
