Owharoa Falls

Owharoa Falls is a tiered waterfall in Karangahake Gorge consisting of three distinct cascading levels that flow over smooth rock surfaces into a wide pool at the base. The structure creates multiple swimming zones at different heights and allows visitors to explore different sections of the natural formation.

The falls served as a natural landmark for miners during the gold rush of the late 1800s as they worked through the mineral-rich Karangahake Gorge region. This connection to the mining era reflects how the landscape was used during that period of industrial activity.

Access is via Waitawheta Road with a dedicated parking area near the site. A short walk from the parking area leads directly to the viewing area where you can see and reach the falls.
