Pohutu Geyser, Geothermal geyser in Whakarewarewa Valley, New Zealand
Pohutu Geyser releases water jets up to 30 meters high, erupting twenty times daily in the geothermal region of Rotorua.
During the 1980s, authorities closed geothermal bores within 1.5 kilometers of the geyser to preserve its natural eruption patterns.
The name originates from Maori language, reflecting generations of indigenous connections to this natural water formation in the thermal valley.
Visitors can observe eruptions every hour, with each display of steam and water continuing between ten to twenty minutes.
Scientists monitor the increased regularity of eruptions, as changes in patterns could affect the long-term sustainability of this geothermal system.
