Cowra Japanese Garden and Cultural Centre, Japanese garden in Cowra, Australia.
The 5-hectare garden features rocky hillsides, waterfalls, streams, and lakes that provide an environment for numerous aquatic birds to thrive.
The garden, opened in 1979, commemorates Japanese prisoners who died during World War II and marks the location of the 1944 Cowra prison break.
The Cultural Centre houses over 300 Japanese artifacts, including ceramics, kimonos, lacquerware, wood carvings, folk dolls, and traditional ink paintings.
Visitors can explore three kilometers of pathways that wind through miniature Japanese landscapes, complete with mountains, waterfalls, and traditional architecture.
Ken Nakajima preserved native gum trees within the Japanese garden design to represent Australian soldiers, creating a space where both cultures connect.
