Lake Cargelligo extends across 8 kilometers in length and 3.5 kilometers in width, maintaining an average depth of 3 meters for water activities.
John Oxley discovered the area in 1817, initially naming it Regents Lake before Thomas Mitchell changed it to Cudjallagong based on Wiradjuri language.
The region holds strong ties to Indigenous heritage, with 18 percent of the current population representing Aboriginal communities, particularly from Wiradjuri backgrounds.
The lake functions as part of the Lachlan River storage system while offering opportunities for swimming, fishing, water skiing, and bird watching.
The area contains 216 recorded bird species, including pelicans, swans, ducks, geese, honeyeaters, whistlers, woodswallows, and grebes throughout the seasons.
