LH Ford Bridge, Road bridge in Dubbo, Australia
The LH Ford Bridge is a concrete structure spanning 613 meters across the Macquarie River and connecting two sections of Dubbo through two vehicle lanes. The bridge provides access for cars, bicycles, and pedestrians in a straightforward design.
The bridge was completed in September 1969 and was the fourth longest highway bridge in New South Wales at the time. It replaced an earlier wooden structure that had previously connected the two sections of the city.
The bridge bears the name of Les Ford, a former Mayor of Dubbo and member of the New South Wales Parliament who contributed significantly to the community. His name reflects the local respect for civic leaders who shaped the city.
The bridge is straightforward to cross and offers separated areas for vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians for safe passage. The entire length is level and fully accessible, making the river crossing easy to navigate.
In 2018, two additional support piers were installed in the river to reinforce the center span and extend the bridge's lifespan. These improvements allow the structure to continue serving reliably for decades to come.
