Mount St Marys College and Convent

Mount St Marys College and Convent is a three-story brick building with a painted corrugated iron roof and decorative stucco details. The complex shows the architectural features of the Federation Free Classical style that was common in Australia during that period.

The Sisters of Charity founded the institution in 1901, and Cardinal Moran laid the foundation stone for the new building in 1909. The facility became an important center for religious education and schooling in the Blue Mountains.

The building reflects the style that Catholic educational institutions brought to the region in the early 1900s. Its architecture shows how important the church and learning were to the community at that time.

The site is located at Civic Place and is registered as a heritage property, so visits are available at scheduled times. Visitors should check ahead since the grounds are not always open for casual visits.

A memorial grotto built in 1926 was created to celebrate the silver jubilee of the convent and remains a quiet place for reflection. This small monument shows the bond between the sisters and the community they served.
