Defence Force Correctional Establishment, Military correctional facility in Greater Western Sydney, Australia
The Defence Force Correctional Establishment houses military personnel from all service branches, including Navy, Army, and Air Force, with individual cells accommodating up to 22 detainees. The facility is located at Holsworthy Barracks and operates with specialized rehabilitation-focused programs.
This establishment was created in January 1989 and moved to Holsworthy Barracks in 1992. It replaced the 1st Military Correctional Establishment that had previously operated at Hammondville.
Staff members here use the title of instructor rather than guard, which shows the place's approach to helping detainees change and improve.
The facility accepts military personnel sentenced to detention periods exceeding 14 days. Visitors should know this is a specialized military detention center with restricted public access.
The facility introduced a Newfoundland dog named Charlie to serve as both mascot and rehabilitation helper. This dog was brought in to support the mental well-being of detainees from the armed forces.
