Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church of Randwick

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Randwick is a brick and sandstone church with Gothic Revival design. Its most striking feature is the tall spire rising from the southern side, while inside the timber roof structure supports the worship space.

The foundation stone was laid on June 5, 1887, with construction completed in 1888 by Eaton Brothers under architects Sheerin and Hennessy. The church was built during a period of growth for the Catholic community in the Randwick area.

The church functions as a National Shrine and maintains strong connections with Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School, established in 1881.

The church is situated at 193 Avoca Street near Randwick's shopping area and is easily reached on foot. Access is straightforward, making it convenient to visit while exploring the local neighborhood.

Inside, an octagonal chapel sits near the altar and creates a distinct devotional space. Stained glass windows bathe this area in colored light, adding to its special character.
