Blue Mountains Botanic Garden

Blue Mountains Botanic Garden is a botanical garden in Mount Tomah situated at approximately 1,000 meters (3,280 feet) elevation across expansive grounds. It houses thousands of plant species from around the world arranged throughout different sections of the property.

The garden opened in 1972 after the land had been privately held for several decades. It was established specifically to cultivate and research plant species suited to cooler mountain altitudes.

The garden takes its name from the surrounding mountain range and draws visitors interested in exploring cool-climate plant collections. Pathways wind through themed sections where locals and travelers alike enjoy walking and discovering plants from different regions.

Access is straightforward as the garden sits on well-signposted grounds with ample parking for vehicles. Visitors should prepare for changeable mountain weather conditions and wear comfortable shoes since the terrain is hilly.

The property is one of only two botanical institutions worldwide located within a UNESCO World Heritage site and surrounded by natural wilderness. This unusual location makes each visit an exploration of both tended gardens and untouched nature.
