Chimney Cottage, Heritage accommodation in Mount Wilson, Australia
Chimney Cottage is a stone and timber building on Waterfall Road in Mount Wilson featuring a large rubble stone fireplace and log cabin-style architecture. The property provides accommodation in the main cottage plus two additional spaces called The Studio and The Loft, all set among blueberry plantations.
The cottage was built in 1932 by the Kirk Brothers for the Gregson family. It originally functioned as a tea room kiosk serving refreshments and meals to visiting tourists.
The building reflects early 20th-century rural Australian construction methods using local stone and timber materials. The large rubble stone fireplace demonstrates the handcraft traditions that were common in the region.
The property sits in a rural area easily reached from Mount Wilson, though the terrain is hilly. Visitors should know that the surroundings are quite remote and nights can be dark and very quiet.
The grounds feature extensive gardens developed by the Avery family and laid out with dry stone walls built from field stone. These stone structures were built in the 1980s by stonemason Peter Hodgkinson.
