Australian Convict Sites
Australian Convict Sites, Architectural ensemble in Australia.
The Australian Convict Sites consist of 11 penal sites originally built within the British Empire’s global convict transportation strategy.
Inscribed on Australia's National Heritage List in 2007, and UNESCO's World Heritage List in 2010.
These sites bear testimony to a penal system which lasted for over 80 years, and affected more than 166,000 people.
The sites are scattered across New South Wales, Norfork Island, Tasmania, and Western Australia.
One of the only global examples of large-scale convict transportation and colonial expansion.
