Mooney Mooney Bridge

Mooney Mooney Bridge, Cantilever bridge in New South Wales, Australia

Mooney Mooney Bridge is a cantilever bridge crossing Mooney Mooney Creek on the M1 Pacific Motorway. It carries six lanes of traffic with multiple supporting piers and a main span that reaches across the water below.

The bridge opened in 1986 following its inauguration by Prime Minister Bob Hawke. It represented a major advancement in connecting Sydney to the Central Coast and Hunter Region through a direct highway route.

The bridge design by Bruce Judd from NSW Department of Main Roads demonstrates Australian engineering excellence through its structural composition and environmental considerations.

This bridge carries heavy traffic as part of the M1 Pacific Motorway and is maintained by Transport for NSW. Expect busy conditions during peak hours, particularly when traveling between Sydney and the northern coastal areas.

Engineer Bruce Judd designed this structure with features that let travelers look toward the surrounding Brisbane Water National Park while crossing. The parapet design balances safety with sightlines, offering glimpses of the landscape below as vehicles pass over.
