Muttonbird Island Nature Reserve

The coastal reserve features a sealed walking track leading to an eastern lookout with panoramic views of the Solitary Islands Marine Park.

The reserve has long served as a crucial nesting site for migratory wedge-tailed shearwater birds, which return annually between August and April.

Known as Giidany Miirlarl by the Aboriginal Gumbaynggirr people, the island holds deep cultural significance through Dreaming stories and traditional practices.

Access to the reserve begins at Coffs Harbour Marina via a break wall path, with multiple rest points along the steep ascent.

The outdoor learning center provides information about thousands of wedge-tailed shearwaters that nest in burrows throughout the island slopes.
