Sunshine Coast Stadium, multi-sport stadium in Bokarina, Queensland, Australia
Sunshine Coast Stadium is a multi-sport venue in Bokarina, in the Kawana Waters urban centre on Queensland's Sunshine Coast. Its main grandstand, opened on 3 June 2011, seats 1,050 spectators under cover on the western side of the field. The grandstand has a flat dark roof with two rows of rectangular light fixtures beneath the overhang, and tiered dark seats divided by vertical aisles. The stadium is the centrepiece of a sporting precinct that also includes seven fields.
The stadium was originally planned as a larger venue with a curved grandstand in 2007 but was downsized due to budget constraints. An expanded covered structure was completed in 2011, and since 2020, international-standard lighting and modern video systems have enhanced its event capabilities.
The venue was sponsored as Stockland Park when it was first expanded in 2007, and the name Sunshine Coast Stadium was given to the grandstand opened on 3 June 2011. A Cold Chisel concert there on 29 October 2011 drew 15,000 patrons, and the ground has since hosted NRL premiership matches, including a 2019 record crowd of 11,912.
The main covered grandstand sits on the western wing of the main field, holding 1,050 spectators under cover, with temporary seating added around the field for rectangular events. The site lies within a sporting precinct of seven fields at Bokarina, in the Kawana Waters urban centre. International-standard light towers were erected in 2020.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the stadium became a temporary home for the Melbourne Storm, a major rugby league team unable to play in Victoria due to local restrictions. This was an unexpected moment when a regional coastal venue suddenly took on a national role.
