Lark Quarry Dinosaur Trackways, Dinosaur footprint site in Winton Shire, Australia.
Lark Quarry Dinosaur Trackways is a protected natural monument in Winton Shire containing fossilized footprints embedded in exposed sandstone rock. The tracks show evidence of smaller two-legged dinosaurs walking across what was once a riverbed.
The footprints were made around 95 million years ago when small dinosaurs walked along the bank of an ancient river. The region was then surrounded by coniferous forests and shaped by very different climate conditions than today.
The site functions as an educational center where visitors learn about prehistoric life through guided tours and scientific exhibits.
The location is reached after a two-hour drive from Winton along both sealed and unsealed roads. Visitors are guided in groups across the site to view the footprints up close and learn about their significance.
Scientists identified two distinct track types showing different dinosaur species that crossed the same spot. These different footprint patterns help researchers understand how different species coexisted during the same ancient period.
